The CoLo EVDO is another industry first from WiredSkies providing complete out-of-band management of colocated equipment using EVDO cellular service. The CoLo EVDO includes all the features of the exCelsior Extreme convergence router including the integrated EVDO modem with 3 Watt amplifier and also includes a terminal server with up to 32 RS-232 connections.

Cross connect fees prohibit a cost effective remote management solution in most colocation facilities with monthly recurring costs often exceeding $400. Why pay for this when all you need is a back channel to manage your equipment in the event of a network failure or mis-configuration.?

The CoLo EVDO allows a user to connect via SSH, Telnet, or the Web to manage equipment located in a data center. It can provide serial console access to equipment connected to it using RS-232 or via the onboard gigabit Ethernet ports. IP KVMs may also be connected directly to the unit to enabling console access for graphical systems such as Windows servers.

Secure connections are assured as the CoLo EVDO supports both IPSEC and SSL VPNs. These can be setup as point to point connections to other locations as well as directly to users using the included client software which supports Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. As the unit supports auto-failover between networks, it may be connected to a wired network connection for in-band operation during times when the network is available then switching over to EVDO in the event of network failure.

Another feature often lacking in a data center is the ability to have access to a simple phone line. Cell phones often do not work well inside many data centers making it difficult for onsite engineers to communicate. The CoLO EVDO can provide one or multiple standard analog phone lines to enable engineers to place and receive phone calls directly from the rack. Simply connect any standard analog phone.

The CoLo EVDO also provides out-of-band Internet access either through the onboard gigabit Ethernet ports or the optional integrated 802.11 a/b/g WiFi access point. This enables someone onsite to easily connect to the Internet to download firmware, software updates, and many other potential applications.
